چکیده

The morphology of neoplasms in the nasal olfactory region of the Syrian golden hamster observed after s.c. injections of di-/!-propylnitrosamine, ß-hydroxypropyl-H-propylnitrosamine, ß-oxopropyl-;i-propylnitrosamine, and methyl-/J-propylnitrosamine are described; all four compounds induced tumors. Neoplastia lesions were characterized by the proliferation of three often intermingled cell types (large cuboidal, cylindrical, and small cell). These cells were similar to cells of olfactory glands, sustentacular cells, and basal cells. Neurogenic elements were not identified in the tumors. Therefore these neoplasms were called carcinomas originating in the olfactory epithelium; the diagnostic criteria were discussed.

The Effect of Concomitant Ethanol and Opium Consumption on Lipid Profiles and Atherosclerosis in Golden Syrian Hamster’s Aorta

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the main cause of mortality in the world and is normally argued as the third cause of all mortalities. Opium and alcohol every day consumption can cause people to have many health problems. The present study aimed to assess the effect of ethanol and opium consumption on lipid profiles and atherosclerosis in aorta. Methods: Twenty four male golden Syri...

Differences in experimental pancreatic carcinogenesis induced by oral or subcutaneous administration of 2,2'-dihydroxydi-n-propylnitrosamine in duct-ligated hamsters.

After ligation of the main pancreatic duct in the splenic lobe, Syrian golden hamsters were treated, either p.o. or s.c., for 15 weeks with dihydroxydi-n-propylnitrosamine for induction of pancreatic duct carcinomas. The incidence, location, and type of proliferative lesions distal and proximal to the ligature were recorded and compared to those of dihydroxydi-n-propylnitrosamine-treated hamste...

Kiwifruit effect on adipose tissue cell size and cholesteryl ester transfer protein gene expression in high-fat diet fed Golden Syrian hamsters

Objective: The effects of kiwifruit on the histology and cell size of adipose tissue in hyperlipidemic models have not yet been reported. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of kiwifruit on the adipose tissue cell size and activity as well as the gene expression of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) in high-fat diet (HFD...

Effects of route of administration and dose on the carcinogenicity of N-nitrosodiethanolamine in the Syrian golden hamster.

N-Nitrosodiethanolamine was assayed for carcinogenicity in Syrian golden hamsters by s.c. injection, topical application, and oral cavity swabbing. Three groups of 30 hamsters each received 27 weekly s.c. injections of either 500, 170, or 58 mg of N-nitrosodiethanolamine per kg in 0.9% NaCl solution. In the group treated with 500 mg/kg, 19 of 30 animals developed nasal cavity tumors, 7 of 30 ha...
